OUR GROUP

Founded in 1911 as a sugar estate, Medine has accompanied the economic development of Mauritius throughout the years, by diversifying its activities in trade, tourism and other sectors.

The company is acknowledged as a major player in the socio-economic development of Mauritius and has taken an active role in shaping the western landscape of the island. Medine has undergone a rebranding exercise in 2009. The new identity reflects the current ambition of this visionary and pioneer entity whose activities have been restructured into four distinct clusters:

  • Medine Property develops the property portfolio of the company.
  • Medine Agriculture is injecting a new momentum to the agricultural activities of the Group through a modernisation and diversification programme.
  • Medine Leisure manages, operates and develops the leisure activities of the Group, including the Casela World of Adventures.
  • Medine Education has embarked on a new adventure in 2012 to create a university campus in the west of Mauritius

Medine Agriculture

Medine’s centennial history in sugarcane growing and milling is, in itself, a hallmark of its people’s commitment to quality, sustainability and efficiency. The will for modernisation, combined with the expert knowledge of the cane industry, has driven Medine to plan ahead and maximize the potential of its fertile soil.

Medine has also taken full advantage of the richness of its soil to produce a selection of great fruit and vegetables. The brand “Jardins de Medine” is now a household name for healthy produces.

Other activities of the Agriculture cluster of Medine are:

§   A Garden Centre that markets plants and shrubs grown in the company’s nursery

§   Landscaping activities that specially targets developments spearheaded by the Property, Education and Leisure clusters
